Officials OK resolutions for state grant program
At the Sept. 5 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board approved five resolutions in the pursuit of grants from the Local Share Account state grant program. If awarded, the amount of the grants will exceed $250,000.
The LSA is required under Act 71 for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to put into place program guidelines to distribute funds generated in Lehigh and Northampton counties. The funds are generated from gambling activities, such as casinos.
Projects are considered eligible if they concern the public interest, community improvement and economic development.
The resolutions aimed at pursing LSA grant funds include resolution 2023-16 for two police vehicles, resolution 2023-17 for a public works truck, resolution 2023-18 for an asphalt roller, resolution 2023-19 for a speed trailer and resolution 2023-20 for a crack sealer.
All resolutions and ordinances are available on the township website, mooretownship.org, for review.
In other news, Moore Township Police Chief Gary West said there were 319 incidents in August with four arrests, including a DUI and criminal mischief. In other police matters, the board approved the hiring of two part-time police officers.
The fire department and ambulance corps said there were two fires and two motor vehicle accident calls in August. There were 83 ambulance calls.
In the First Regional Compost Authority report, it was mentioned anyone caught dropping off forbidden materials will be cited and prosecuted, if necessary. This effort is to reduce illegal dumping at FRCA, located at 6701 Weaversville Road.

The board approved the basketball court resurfacing and other improvements at the township’s recreation center at a cost of about $21,000.
In the historical commission report, Fedio Construction was approved to work on renovations needed at the Edelman School.

The next budget workshop meeting is planned for Oct. 25.
Next month’s board meeting was changed to Nov. 2 since the general election is Nov. 7. It is an in-person-only meeting at the municipal building, 2491 Community Drive.
