Anthony J. “Tony” Sommer, 89, a resident at Rittenhouse Village, Allentown, died peacefully Oct. 6, 2023. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Schuch) Sommer. Born in Northampton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Heindl) Sommer.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker R.C. Church, Orefield.
He graduated from The Pontifical College Josephinum, Worthington, Ohio and worked at Mack Trucks for 30 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a longtime Eagles and Tigers fan, an avid golfer and loved attending sporting events of all his grandchildren.
He is survived by a daughter, Anita M. and her husband, Bruce Beitzer, of Allentown; granddaughters, Amanda Beitzer, Kara (Sean) Tucker; grandson, Kyle (Kayla) Beitzer; great-granddaughters, Ellen, Nora and Faye Tucker; sister, Margaret Bannon; brothers, Edward (Peggy), Dennis (Cheryl); companion, Joanne Collette; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jandrasits; brothers, John, Joseph and Alfred.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Oct. 23 in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield where his family will receive guests beginning 10 a.m. Arrangements were made by the Gilbert Funeral Home of Whitehall.
