Emmaus extends shutout streak

The Emmaus High School boys soccer team continued its run of shutout victories two more last week. The Green Hornets are 14-1-1 overall and undefeated in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference at 14-0-1 and have not allowed a goal in conference play.

Emmaus defeated East Stroudsburg South 9-0 at Memorial Field last Tuesday night and followed that up with a 3-0 victory on the road at Stroudsburg on Thursday evening to remain on top of the conference, along with rival Parkland (15-1 overall, 15-0 EPC), which it will see in the regular season finale this week.

Against the Cavaliers, there were seven different goal scorers, led by two each from Ryan Kiernan and Connor Powell. Elijah Miller, Marcus Puentes, Elijah Daly, Canyon Reinhardt and Kai Mattern all added a goal a piece to round out the scoring for the Green Hornets. Ethan Ervin, Kiernan, Daly, Miller and Puentes all contributed an assist. Colin Wilson, Gavin Yartymyk and Will Peck all shared time in goal for Emmaus with Yartymyk finished with one save. Emmaus held a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners.

In the win over the Mountaineers, Kiernan once again scored twice and Puentes added the third. Ervin contributed an assist in the win and Wilson ended with four saves in goal for Emmaus, which outshot Stroudsburg 22-4 overall, 12-4 on goal, and were tied 3-3 in corners.

The Green Hornets have two home games this week to end the regular season. They hosted Allen this past Monday night and host the Trojans Wednesday night.

The winner of the Emmaus-Parkland matchup will be the regular season champion and have the number one overall seed in the EPC Tournament.
