The Emmaus High School field hockey team found itself playing away from home all of last week and had its closest game in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference so far this regular season. But at the end of the week, the Green Hornets were undefeated and won both games, to remain unbeaten in the conference at 10-0 and are 12-1 overall.
Emmaus had to hold on late to take care of Easton 2-1 last Monday night, September 25th. It was the second close victory over the Red Rovers in the span of a week, having beaten them 2-0 the Monday prior at home. The Green Hornets had an easier time against Liberty last Thursday, winning 10-0 at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.
Sharlise Solano’s goal off an assist from Autum Kernechel in the third quarter proved to be the game-winner as Emmaus took a 2-0 lead, but watched as Easton pulled to within one with a goal a few minutes later. Emmy Horner got the Green Hornets on the scoreboard with a first-quarter goal on a penalty corner with assists to Haley Kvacky and Autumn Held. Emmaus outshot Easton 17-8 and had an 8-7 edge in penalty corners. Emma Cari made five saves in cage. Morgan Orobono had a defensive save as well.
Five players found the back of the cage in the double-digit victory over the Hurricanes, led by six goals from Melea Weber. Kvacky, Abby Romano, Horner and Held all finished with one goal each. Kernechel’s three assists led the team, while Weber and Kvacky both contributed an assist. Cari finished with four saves.
Emmaus began this week with a nonconference home game against Gwynedd Mercy Academy this past Monday. The Green Hornets host Pocono Mountain East on Wednesday and are at Whitehall on Friday.
