Parkland’s Alexandria Warsing and Liberty’s Helena Lynn have squared off many times on the tennis court. Until last week, Lynn always came out on top. That changed at the East Penn Conference Championships last week when Warsing met Lynn in the No. 1 singles final and beat her for the first time to take first place.
“I’ve played her a few times in high school and outside of high school in our USTA league and I’d never beaten her,” said Warsing. “So that was pretty exciting that I beat her. We keep making each other better and I felt like it was my time finally.”
The two sophomores were already the most dominant players in the area last year as freshmen. They met in both the league and district finals and are likely to meet in many more big matches in the next few years.
They already know each other’s game well.
“Her forehand is really solid so I tried to hit it to her backhand as much as possible,” said Warsing. “She’s an aggressive player so I tried to not let her come to the net as much. And I thought my serves were on that day. My serves are kind of on or off. They were solid that day.”
Warsing led the unbeaten Trojans to the league tournament title, with a pair of doubles teams also winning their brackets at the event.
Juniors Arohi Vase and Kiera Miles took first place in the No. 2 doubles bracket at the EPC Championships, while junior Ali Silman and freshman Kiana Miles teamed up to take the title at No. 3 doubles.
