Walters, DeLong, Schutz qualify for District 11 Championship

Four Emmaus golfers competed in last week’s District 11 Championship qualifying tournament and three advanced to this week’s championship.

Hornet freshman Evan Walters shot 82 to tie for sixth place last Tuesday at Olde Homestead. Teammate Kyan DeLong also advanced, carding an 86 to finish 15th. The top 16 players and ties advanced to the championship.

Emmaus senior Zachary Yenawine shot 91 at the qualifier and finished 23rd.

Walters made one birdie, nine pars, five bogeys and three double bogeys in his round. DeLong, a sophomore, had one birdie, seven pars, six bogeys, three doubles and one triple bogey at the tournament.

Yenawine birdied his second hole and was even par through five holes before a nine on his fifth hole derailed his round.

In the girls qualifier, where players need to shoot 110 or better to make this week’s championship field, Maya Schutz shot 94 to finish in fourth place in Class 3A girl and advance to the championship. She shot 50 on her first nine but followed it with a 44 on the second nine to come in well under the qualifying number.

Emmaus senior Noah Schurman will also compete in this week’s championship tournament. As a returning state qualifier he was exempt from district qualifying.
