SHS names student of the week

Q. What grade are you currently enrolled in?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Salisbury High School.

Q. Who is in your family?

A. My mom is Mercedes DeFazio Newman and my dad is Tim Newman. My stepdad’s name is Brian Stephens and my stepmom’s name is Candace Newman. I have a brother who is in Salisbury Middle School, Lochlan Newman and five stepsiblings, Kara, Chloe, Landon and Quintin Stephens, along with Austin Alvarez-Yong.

Q. What is your favorite school subject? Why?

A. My favorite school subject is English because it gives me the opportunity to explore my reading and writing skills, along with allowing me to learn about others and their experiences through stories.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Last year I was given the Rochester Institute of Technology Women in S.T.E.M. Scholarship award.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I am a two-year captain of varsity cheerleading and I am also on the varsity swim team. Along with that, I am also secretary of National Honor Society, treasurer of Student Government Advisory and a member of the Student Advisory for the Class of 2024, AEVIDUM, Key Club and Spanish Club.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to attend a four-year college and major in either English or creative writing.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date would have to be balancing all of my extracurricular schoolwork, like honors and advanced placement classes, alongside my social life outside of the school environment.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered as someone who always tried their hardest to be kind and accepting of others.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my teachers at Salisbury High School because they always push me to be the best student I can be and always encourage me to perform well when it comes to my classes in school.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. If I were to give any advice to my peers, it would be to always try your hardest in school, but also make sure to give yourself time to recuperate and relax, so that you will be able to produce your best work.
