Golf ends season

The Northampton golf team’s season came to a bit of a disappointing end at the Disrict 11 tournament last week.

Coming into the season, head coach Brian Davies had high hopes for his Kids squad, and they delivered with an unbeaten regular season, knocking off powers like Emmaus, Parkland and Nazareth.

The team edged the Blue Eagles in the regular season, but just one stroke. However, the Kids pulled away from the Eagles at the EPC tourney to take first.

As the team headed into districts, Davies knew one team would be a potential issue - Southern Lehigh. Turned out, the Spartans had four golfers place in the top-10 and Solehi pulled away to win the District 11 3A team title.

The individual event was won by Pocono Mountain East’s Evan Murphy who shot a even-par 72. Stroudsburg’s Hunter Probst was second with a 77.

Southern Lehigh’s Colin Samoski (79), David Burmeister (79) and Frank Boensch (79) were three of five golfers who tied for fourth and moved on to states. Caleb Walsh was ninth, carding an 80.

Northampton’s highest finisher was Jayden Bleiler who shot 81 for 12th. Gavin Pychinka was 13th and shot 82.

Trent Moyer finished 19th and shot 88. Kohler Strohl was 22nd with an 89. Tyler Matute-Keiper was 26th with a 94.

Allie Tarreto of Nazareth won for the 3A girls, shooting an 85. Moravian Academy’s Mara Dubacher shot 78 for the 2A girls.

Jayden Bleiler was the Kids top finisher at the District 11 golf tournament last week, claiming 12th.
