Girls soccer team looks to keep rolling

The Whitehall girls soccer team is looking to finish strong and focus on the upcoming EPC and District 11 playoffs.

So far so good...

The girls sit at 12-5 and have won 10 of their last 11 games. One of those wins was over Nazareth in overtime where the Eagles had their chances and advantages in play, but it was a game where Whitehall came out on top.

“The team is playing well during the current stretch,” said head coach Chris Bleam. “We had an exciting win over Nazareth in OT last week with Ava Wells scoring with one minute left in overtime (assist by Sage Snyder). Nazareth had more chances but the team defended well and countered effectively.”

Wells now has 13 goals on the season with eight assists for 34 points to lead the way for the Zephs. She has 45 careers goals at Whitehall as of press time.

“Ava has become the 4th leading scorer in Whitehall girls soccer history,” Bleam added.

Collene Sommers has seven goals and seven assists for 21 points. Snyder has eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Ella Weber has seven goals and five assist for 19 points and Kate Yadush has three goals and three assists for nine point.

“The team has been keeping possession of the ball effectively and creating quality scoring chances frequently,” Bleam said.

Bleam added goalkeepers Sam Kern (a senior) and Cora Musselman (a freshman) have been sharing goalkeeping duties and both are playing well. The backs continue to play well for the Zephs, too. They include Morgan Laub, Jade Alvarez, M’Balu Fofana, Sommers and Teagan Crosson.

The game will come after Press deadlines, but next up for Whitehall on Wednesday is a contest with rival Northampton, which sits at 12-5 as well. Both teams are 10-5 in the EPC and should make the upcoming playoffs.

The postseason begins Saturday in the EPC but there is a lot to be determined as far as seeding goes. The forecast is also calling for rain.
