Brayden Eckhart, of Moore Township, dedicated his Eagle Scout project Sept. 3, while waiting to hear if it qualified him for the higher Scouting rank.
The Northampton Area High School student’s insight and understanding about the importance of the project, its impact on the local community and the benefit of helping of those in need superseded waiting to dedicate the outside food bank until receiving his Eagle Scout award.
Brayden, with his team, constructed and filled the large hutch with food and nonfood items to assist those in need. The outdoor food bank sits outside of Christ United Church of Christ, Little Moore, in Danielsville. Family, fellow Scouts, friends and church members attended the dedication, held after the Sunday morning church services.
“I would like to officially dedicate this outside food bank to Christ Church Little Moore UCC,” Brayden said.
He organized a food drive with his team and collected 226 pounds of food. With additional cash donations, they purchased laundry detergent, toilet tissue, feminine products, tissues, razors, cat food and more to place in the food bank.
His parents, Aaron and Megan Eckhart, were beaming with pride at their son’s accomplishment.
Brayden has been a Scout for years and worked his way up to Life Scout, which is the rank before Eagle Scout. He plans to study health care at Northampton Community College and is considering a career as a registered nurse.
