Hanover tables bid opening

At the Oct. 4 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council tabled the opening of bid No. 2023-03, which is for the stormwater rehabilitation and enhancement project.

Council held a public hearing about bill 2023-05, which amends ordinance chapter 15 of the statutory code of Hanover Township that changes any reference contained within the current ordinance of “Hoover Street” wherever it appears to “Hoover Avenue.”

It was noted there are no street signs in public with Hoover Street and Hoover Avenue to create confusion for residents. The amended ordinance is a clerical revision of the wording contained within the current ordinance.

During the public hearing, it was said Clarence Avenue is also referred to in different places in the ordinance as Clarence Street. Because of the new information about Clarence Avenue, council voted to table the vote on bill 2023-05 until the Nov. 15 council meeting.

In her township manager’s report, Melissa Wehr requested and received permission to set up three township 2024 budget meetings, if necessary, for 4 p.m. Oct. 24, 25 and 26 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove Road.

In his township engineer report, Al Kortze noted the Troxell neighborhood project was winding down with a punch list of items left to complete. Microsurfacing of the street was expected to occur this week.

Microsurfacing of asphalt is a surface treatment designed to extend the life of asphalt pavements in good condition by providing skid resistance and limit moisture intrusion, which improves vehicle traction, making roads safer for users.

Kortze also reported the Valley Plaza sanitary sewer project work is progressing. The project’s expected completion is by the end of October. The Catasauqua Road signal project was about to begin, according to Kortze, who reported all the necessary supplies and items for the project have arrived.

Reached after the meeting, Wehr noted the township is seeking a code enforcement officer. Contact the township office for information about the position or to apply.

Trick-or-treat night in the township will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27, with a rain date of Oct. 28.

If you are planning an event at one of the three township parks in 2024, secure a rental as soon as your plans are firm because the parks are growing in popularity. Increased rentals are expected next year.

Park pavilion rentals will be accepted starting Jan. 1, 2024, for the 2024 season, which occurs April 1-Oct. 15, 2024.

The next council meeting is 7 p.m. Oct. 18. It is an in-person-only meeting at the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road.
