Board OKs three-way stop at Atlas Road, Phyllese Drive

At the Sept. 12 meeting, Allen Township Board of Supervisors approved ordinance 2023-04, creating a three-way stop sign at Atlas Road and Phyllese Drive.

The three-way stop was recommended after a traffic study was done in May 2023 by the township engineer. Board Chairman Dale Hassler said the hope is to make the intersection safer. There is a bus stop at the corner, and people reportedly drive through without stopping.

In other business, the board also discussed the Allen Development Partner’s preliminary/final development plan for Wawa. The plan proposes a 6,049-square-foot Wawa at the southwest corner of Route 329 and Savage Road, adjacent to the Stone Ridge development. It also proposes 16 total fueling pumps and 57 parking spaces.

Three entrances are proposed for the convenience store: one off Savage Road, a signalized one from Route 329 and a shared access road from the south of the development.

Hassler, who is also the township fire chief, was concerned about more traffic creating more accidents at an already-busy intersection.

Scott Pasterski, Stone Ridge engineer, said he believes removing the Savage Road entrance will add more traffic on Nor-Bath Boulevard and thinks the entrance will keep the traffic off Route 329.

After a lengthy discussion on the Savage Road entrance and other potential traffic issues, supervisors approved a motion extending the plan’s deadline until Oct. 11 to make changes.

Supervisors will next meet 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at the fire department building, 3530 Howertown Road.
