The Parkland High School football team has faced four straight unbeaten opponents. Five in a row if one counts the opening game in which both teams were 0-0.
The Trojans (5-0) have handed all five opponents their first loss of the season.
While that streak ends this weekend with Parkland’s home game against Whitehall Friday night at Parkland School District Stadium, the Zephyrs still represent a challenging opponent and a rival. The Trojans are 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference South Division. They are one of just two teams in the conference that are still unbeaten, joining Bethlehem Catholic, a team which they will see in two weeks.
The Zephyrs are 4-1 and 3-1 and enter on a three-game win streak. Their only defeat so far this season came at the hands of the aforementioned Golden Hawks in week two. They beat Easton, Emmaus and last week, took down that Patriots 29-28 in overtime.
For Whitehall, Carter Troxell scored what proved to be the game-winner in overtime, from one yard away. The Zephyrs did need to convert on the Point After Touchdown after Freedom scored on its first possession of extra time, but missed the PAT. Trey Dogmanits threw two touchdown passes, one to Kaden Weaver and the other to Talon Dogmanits. Dalton Wickel recorded Whitehall’s initial touchdown, a five-yard run in the second quarter.
“The first person you notice on film is their quarterback, Trey Dogmanits,” Facchiano said. “He is an all-around athlete at the QB position and he can scramble around with vision down the field. His final touchdown in regulation last week against Freedom featured him scrambling from one side of the field to the other to score and push the game to overtime. You also see athletes on defense like Carter Troxell who competes and places in our winter powerlifting meets. Once again, there are no easy weeks in the EPC South and we will get Whitehall’s best effort.”
