The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team was looking to build back some positive momentum after falling in two of its last three matches the week before last. Mission accomplished as last week the Green Hornets won both of their matches, both in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
Emmaus defeated Pocono Mountain West in straight sets at home last Monday, September 18, and then went on the road and took down Freedom in four sets on Wednesday, by scores of 24-26, 25-23, 25-10 and 25-13.
It was a welcoming week for the Green Hornets after dropping two of their last three matches the week prior, losing to Pleasant Valley and Easton in four sets, with a straight set victory over Northampton sandwiched in between.
In the match with the Panthers, the offensive attack was led Cirrae Cuffy, who finished with a team-high 10 kills. She also had four digs, one block and one assist. Claudia Walls recorded nine kills, two digs and one block. Amanda Rivera Ayala tallied eight kills and a team-best eight digs. Alyssa Heffner contributed 27 assists and two digs. Gwyneth Magida finished with four kills, two blocks and one dig. Lauren Horvath added five digs and one ace. Corrine Slivka totaled four digs and four aces.
Stats for the Freedom victory were not made available at the time of print.
Emmaus has a busy and challenging week with three matches in the span of three days. The Green Hornets opened the week with a road match at rival and defending EPC and District 11 champion, Parkland on Tuesday. They host Hazleton in a nonconference match Wednesday and then welcome Whitehall for another conference match on Thursday night.
