The Emmaus High School girls soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2023 regular season a little over a week ago. After going unbeaten in their first eight games to begin the year, the Green Hornets suffered their first defeat in 2-1 loss to Central Catholic back on Friday, September 15 at Memorial Field.
Emmaus responded the way head coach Sarah Oswald and her staff hoped, as it won both games last week, both in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. The Green Hornets went on the road and defeated Pocono Mountain West 9-0 last Tuesday, and then followed that with another shutout win, 10-0, at home against Dieruff on Friday.
Against the Panthers, Sammy Walkiewicz led the team in scoring with two goals, both coming in the first half when Emmaus jumped out in front scoring eight of its nine goals. Elizabeth Bender, Sophia Shutkufski, Gabriella Powell, Julia Adams, Morgan Tandy and Emma Paradise rounded out the scoring for the Green Hornets, who also benefited from a Pocono Mountain West own goal. Adams and Bender also both contributed two assists each and Walkiewicz and Kam McWhinney had an assist apiece. Emmaus had a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks. Ashley Stine was not forced into action in goal.
Emmaus then reached double figures in scoring and had a season-high 10 goals against the Huskies. Stats from the game were not made available at the time of print.
The Green Hornets headed into this week at 9-1-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference.
Emmaus has another two-game week against conference opponents this week. The Green Hornets played at Northampton this past Monday and hosts Freedom on Wednesday night.
