LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Playoff spots up for grabs for local teams

The field hockey season is winding down and Liberty and Freedom are both fighting for their playoff lives with two weeks left in the season.

Liberty (6-5-1) and Freedom (6-8-1) are both in different situations heading into the home stretch, but both face similar paths toward clinching district spots.

The Hurricanes have six games left, while Freedom only has three games to finish out the regular season. Both teams need to finish .500 either overall or in league action to qualify for the postseason.

Liberty came into the week sitting 5-4-1 in the conference and Freedom was 4-6-1. It’ll be a huge week for Liberty with four games on the schedule, as they take on Whitehall (5-5-1), Northampton (9-4-1), Pocono Mountain West (0-10) and Lake Lehman. They finish off the season next Tuesday against Freedom, making their magic number of needing two wins to clinch.

Freedom got a much needed win over Northern Lehigh last week following a 4-0 result, but now will need to win two of their last three games against Nazareth (6-2-4), Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic (1-12).

The Golden Hawks have four games left on the season with Pocono Mountain West (0-10), Parkland (11-1-1), Pleasant Valley (1-10-2) and Freedom. With games against West and Pleasant Valley, Becahi hopes they can end the season on a high note.
