Dogmanits on verge of record but focused on team winning
Whitehall’s Trey Dogmanits had a chance to break Mike Gnall’s career touchdown pass mark of 37 against Parkland last week, but he knew it would be a challenging task.
Unfortunately, Dogmanits will have to wait to do it against Nazareth Friday night.
Parkland beat Whitehall 36-7 last week with their lone score coming on Carter Troxell’s 15-ayrd touchdown run with just over seven minutes left in the game. It was Whitehall’s second loss of the season (4-2) and broke a three-game winning streak.
The Trojans (6-0) scored on their first two possessions and amassed 235 yards rushing and 384 overall. They are the third-ranked team in the state in the Class 6A classification.
However, Dogmanits is more concerned with getting his team back on track rather than any individual marks. Dogmanits was 8 for 25 for 131 yards and an interception. He also rushed for 61 yards.
“It was a tough game,” offered the senior quarterback. “We came out and made too many mistakes. We cannot dwell on our loss because we have a strong Nazareth team up next. We will need to cut down on the errors in order to do what we need to do, which is win.
“As for the records, I can‘t think of those right now because winning is more important. If the records come as the year develops then it will be something to celebrate after the year is over.”
Whitehall will host Nazareth (5-1). The Blue Eagles are coming off a late 14-7 victory over Allentown Central Catholic last week.
Whitehall head coach Andy Marino credited Parkland’s play and realizes Nazareth won’t be an easy chore.
“Parkland played an excellent game,” said Marino. “They executed at a high level. Nazareth has a lot of ability. It will be a challenge.”
