Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department moves into temporary housing

Press Photo by Jim Marsh Firefighters at Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company perform the fire company's monthly “truck check out” at the Eisenhower Station recently, which is operating headquarters now that the Swain Station, 950 S. Ott St., has been demolished to make way for a new firehouse. Built in 1959, the Eisenhower Station, at Eisenhower Avenue and Glick Avenue is the fire company's original operating station. A temporary pole building structure has been put in place so the fire company's two pumper engines and its aerial ladder truck can be accommodated at the site. Construction of the new station will soon begin at the now leveled South Ott Street location near Green Acres Park. The truck check out procedure is done periodically to assure all vehicle systems, all power and hand tools and all rescue equipment are in serviceable condition ready to respond to any emergency.
