During the Sept. 25 Whitehall-Coplay School Board regular meeting, the board recognized several community contributions to Whitehall-Coplay School District, after approving previous meeting minutes.
Bethanie Spaits, the office manager at Americold, Allentown/Fogelsville, was recognized for coordinating the donation of 70 backpacks filled with school supplies. Americold is a cold storage facility.
Retail bookstore 2nd and Charles, located on MacArthur Road in Whitehall, made a contribution of books to WCSD. Store representative Ryan Thompkins coordinated this donation. The books have been dispersed to the appropriate schools, and some will be used as part of the SWPBS program. SWPBS stands for School Wide Positive Behavior Supports. The aim of this program is to enhance the quality of life and minimize problematic behaviors.
Other business before the board was the approval of bills, salaries and new employees. The board also approved the affiliation between WCSD and Kutztown University. This is the opportunity for students to take college-level classes at Kutztown University while still attending Whitehall High School.
PTO PLUS President Toni Fillman reported the PTO had its first meeting of this new academic year Sept. 11. Future meetings will be held 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Steckel Elementary School. All parents/guardians of school-age children are encouraged to attend.
The next WCSB meeting will be for committees and will begin 4 p.m. Oct. 9.
