BETHLEHEM social calendar October 4

GREAT DISCUSSIONS: “Artificial Intelligence: The Good, Bad and the Ugly” with Dr. David P. Lopresti of Lehigh University at 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Kirkland Village. In addition, Dr. Chris Herrick will brief the audience on highlights of the last 50 years of American’s major foreign policy concerns. This free lecture introduces the eight-part 2024 Great Decisions Lecture Series on world affairs topics to be held next February and March

Information on the series will be available at the Oct, 18 program. Dr. Lopresti’s talk starts the Bethlehem YWCA’s 50th year of this lecture series which is an outreach program of the Foreign Policy Association in New York City.

A discounted rate for the lectures and briefing book will be offered for those who purchase the series from Oct. 18 to Dec. 1.

COUNTY FESTIVAL: The Department of Community and Economic Development will hold the Fouth annual County Festival from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Louise W. Moore Park (151 Country Club Road, Easton, PA). The festival will be held rain or shine, and admission is free.

The festival will feature food trucks, beer, wine, and spirits; crafts; live music; nonprofit organizations; demonstrations, including tennis and pickleball lessons; and a presentation of colors. The event will also include an awards program for outstanding volunteers, youth, veterans, businesses, Samaritan, emergency and municipal personnel. Live music performers include the Easton High School Band, Musik Makers, Ziggy Blue, Chuck Schubert, and The Don Cunningham Band.

The county encourages attendees to use the shuttle bus provided by LANTA to and from the festival from 10:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (There will be no shuttle service from 1–1:30 p.m. to allow for a lunch break.) Attendees using the shuttle bus should park at the LVHN Hecktown Oaks Campus at 3780 Hecktown Road, Easton, in the lot closest to the intersection of Hecktown Road and Route 33.

STEAK & BURGER DINNER: The Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem will hold its 2023 Steak & Burger Celebration on Friday, Oct. 20, at WindCreek Bethlehem. A major fundraiser for the youth-serving nonprofit organization, it will be highlighted by honoree Mayor J. William Reynolds, and guest speaker former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook. Reynolds, who grew up playing basketball at the club, is being honored for his commitment to youthdevelopment. Westbrook, who first played organized football at his local Boys & Girls club leading to an illustrious National Football League career as running back for the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, will meet attendees and will share his story with interviewer Kevin Crockett of 100.7 WLEV Radio. Hanna O’Reilly of WFMZ will be the emcee for the evening.

WALKING TOURS: Steelworkers’ Archives walking tours every Saturday and Sunday till December. Former steelworkers lead sidewalk and Hoover-Mason Trestle tours through the Bethlehem Steel plant site.
