Warren, girls to keep working

Catasauqua’s Kelsea Warren believes her team’s success on the soccer field isn’t truly measured with results. After Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to Palmerton, the Rough Riders fell to 1-11 overall.

Yet, Warren is looking at the big picture.

“Our record does not at all reflect the team that we are,” said the senior and second-year captain. “I think we are a completely different team than last year, and it shows on the field.

“We work really well with each other and move the ball around well.”

Warren enjoys her role on the team. She plans to major in biology next year in college and pursue a career in the medical field involving pediatrics.

“I really enjoy being a leader for my team and doing my best to keep everyone positive and motivated on the field. As for the younger girls, I have a lot of hope for them in the future.

“Playing with a young team the past two years has been a challenge at times, but all of our hard work has been paying off. My hope is that it will show in these last six games that we have, and we can get some more wins to close out my senior season.”

Head coach Kayla Cunningham has appreciated Warren’s contributions among others as well.

“Kelsea Warren has been doing an outstanding job taking on many roles and positions this season,” said Cunningham. “Caroline Rodriguez has been a consistent players on the field, and they all want to match her energy and competitiveness.”

Cunningham also cited the play of Rodriguez, Maya Osorto, Julia Harth, and Eva Gnomes. The second-year head coach also credited the performances of goalies Brooke Barna and Jaylianna Martinez.

The Rough Riders will travel to Bangor Thursday and host Salisbury Saturday. They will conclude the regular season with games against Northwestern, Wilson, Northern Lehigh, and Dieruff.

“Our back line is doing an amazing job,” added Cunningham. “Both of our goalies have been doing an amazing job. We’re a young team, but we are making strides. Winning our first game (Salisbury, 1-0, Sept. 15) helped to give us a big lift.

“We just have to keep working hard and stay the course.”
