Parkland Community Library offers bingo for seniors

By ANITA HIRSCH

Special to The Press

Parkland Community Library, South Whitehall, welcomes seniors to play bingo 1-2 p.m. on the first Friday of each month.

Prizes, donated by the players, include tomatoes grown in their garden, fancy soaps, Crayola crayons, boxes of tissues, water bottles or anything that would be a welcomed addition to the winner’s home.

The last bingo game is a cover all and the winner of that game receives a $10 Weis gift card.

Every month, more and more players turn out for the games.

On this Friday, there were 15 players this time, more than the previous month.

Library Adult Services Coordinator Mariann Kmetz is continually devising additional programs for the seniors.

One exciting way to “read” books is called Play Aways.

This is a new concept, with single books on tape that can be plugged in and listened to in the car.

These single book titles can be found in the library and several can be borrowed at once.
