LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Northwestern volleyball beats Catty, falls to Tide

It has been everything or nothing for Northwestern Lehigh this season on the volleyball court. The Tigers’ last five matches and eight of the 11 they have played this season have all been straight set victories or losses. They won two of their last three games and find themselves 5-6 on the season overall and 3-2 in the Colonial League.

Most recently, Northwestern beat Catasauqua (2-4 Colonial, 4-7 overall) in straight sets with Shannon Green getting 14 assists and two aces for the Tigers. Bailey Murray and Norah Silfies continued to dominate at the net with both getting seven kills.

The win came after a straight set loss to Pottsville (5-0 Schuylkill, 8-0 overall). Northwestern played close in the first two sets, falling 25-22 and 25-23, but ran out of gas in the third set when they went down 25-17 in a nonleague game.

Perhaps the best overall performance came in a win over Lehighton (3-2-0 Schuylkill, 6-4-0 overall). Kylie Nagle came up with 46 while Green had 19 assists and two aces. Senior Meg Holman had five kills and two blocks for the Tigers.

The Lady Tigers are battling for playoff spots in both the league and district tournaments. With just the two top teams in the Colonial League going into the postseason, Northwestern is one game behind Notre Dame (5-1, 6-1) for the second spot thanks to a 3-1 loss to the Crusaders earlier in the season. The two teams meet again at Notre Dame on October 2nd and the Tigers play Southern Lehigh (6-0, 8-0), the top team in the league at home a week later. Leading into the game at Notre Dame, Northwestern faces Palmerton (3-5, 0-6), Pen Argyl (1-5, 1-7), and Blue Mountain (4-2 Schuylkill, 6-3 overall).
