EHS boys soccer shuts out EPC foes

The Emmaus High School boys soccer team had another undefeated week as it remains unbeaten in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

The Green Hornets won all three of their games, all shutouts in improving their record to 8-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference.

The Hornets have shut out all eight EPC opponents this season and have outscored them 43-0.

Emmaus defeated Pocono Mountain East 6-0 on the road last Tuesday, September 12. The Green Hornets followed that up one day later by adding a few more goals, taking down Bethlehem Catholic 9-0 at Memorial Field. After two days rest, Emmaus then got the better of Central Catholic 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Cedar Crest College.

Against the Cardinals, Emmaus scored three goals in the first half and three goals in the second half and had six different goal scorers. Ryan Kiernan, Marcus Puentes, Callum Harvey, Elijah Daly, Ethan Ervin and Bryson Moyer all found the back of the net in the contest.

Canyon Reinhardt, Kai Mattern and Ervin each had an assist for the Green Hornets, who outshot PM East 25-3 overall and 14-2 on goal, while holding a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Colin Wilson made two saves in goal.

The next day, hosting the Golden Hawks, Emmaus put the game out of reach early with four first-half goals, and then added five more in the second half for another shutout win. Conner Powell recorded a hat trick to lead the offense. Kiernan netted two goals and each of Mohamed Hassanali, Reinhardt, Daly and Puentes contributed one. Hassanali, Reinhardt, Kiernan, Garran Roth and Ethan Dublin all had one assist.

Wilson, Gavin Yartymyk and Will Peck all split time in goal for the Green Hornets and neither was forced into action as the Golden Hawks did not record a shot on goal thanks to a stout Emmaus defense.

Mattern netted two goals in the first half and Ervin added a goal in the second half as the Green Hornets beat the Vikings. Puentes, Mattern and Elijah Miller all tallied an assist. Wilson finished with three saves. Emmaus had a 7-5 edge in shots and 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Emmaus has three games in the EPC this week. The Green Hornets hosted Pocono Mountain West this past Tuesday and welcome Dieruff to Memorial Field Wednesday. They are at Easton on Saturday.
