The Salisbury football team fell to 0-4 Saturday in a 51-7 loss to Notre Dame (Green Pond).
The Falcons fell behind 44-0 before Andrew Lucas completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jamanni Cruz with 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Mander Leonard hit the extra point.
Crusader quarterback Danny Darno threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns in the win, completing nine of his 13 passes. Sophomore Matt Bodnar relieved Darno in the second half and added 103 yards and two scores on 4-for-8 passing as Notre Dame (3-1) piled up 295 passing yards and 377 yards of offense.
Salisbury got a big night on the ground from Jason St. Leger, who ran for 115 yards on 11 carries. Quarterbacks Lucas (4-for-6, 30 yards, TD) and Jacob Bucchin 3-for-10, 19 yards) had trouble converting big plays against the Crusader defense.
The Falcon defense was led by St. Leger (six tackles, two for loss), Derek Trinidad (five tackles, two for loss), George Spann (five tackles) and Gavin Cerco (four tackles, one for loss).
Salisbury returns home Friday night to host Tamaqua for Shirt Off My Back Night at Salisbury High School Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (0-4) are coming off a 38-15 loss to North Schuylkill last week. They’ve opened the season with some difficult opponents as they fell to Northwestern 49-6 in their opener and followed that with losses to Lehighton (28-6) and Notre Dame (60-13).
Tamaqua is led by junior quarterback Luke Kane, a dual-threat player who leads the team in rushing (159 yards on 34 carries) and has thrown for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He’s completed 18 of his 53 passes this season.
The Raiders also get the ball to senior Damon Sell any way possible. The senior has 108 yards on 38 carries and leads the team with nine receptions and 54 receiving yards (tied for most on team).
