The Salisbury Township Recreation Advisory Committee held a meeting at the municipal building Sept. 18.
The committee discussed the success of the recent AM Radio concert held at Franko Park Sept. 9. Despite the oppressive heat and humidity of the day coupled with a sudden rainstorm, the band kept the crowds entertained for close to two hours before thunder and lightning caused everyone to run for cover.
Before the storm arrived residents were treated to the sights and sounds of the 1960s with music from Herman’s Hermits, Linda Ronstadt, The Beach Boys and even a special tribute to Jimmy Buffet.
Top of the Hill Grill food truck was on hand to satisfy hungry patrons with everything from burgers and fries to pulled pork sandwiches.
The committee is currently making plans for the next big event - the annual tree lighting ceremony at Franko Park. This spring a large tree was planted at the park and underground electric lines were placed this summer. The next obstacle to overcome is the possible 8-week wait for PPL to supply electricity to the tree. The tree lighting is scheduled for Dec. 1.
In the meantime, committee members are hard at work planning activities and musical accompaniment to kick off the holiday season. It is very likely a surprise visitor may make an appearance so mark your calendars to attend this family friendly event.
The Recreation Advisory Committee is seeking residents from the first and fifth wards to fill vacancies on the committee. Meetings are held every other month 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month. Applications are available at www.salisburytownshippa.org.
The next meeting of the Recreation Advisory Committee will be held 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the municipal building.
