Hokendauqua: Register now for basketball

Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association opened online registration for the upcoming 2023-24 basketball season for boys and girls. Registration will be online only. There are no in-person sign-ups planned.

The deadline to register is Oct. 6.

Whitehall Fire Department will hold a Haunted Parkway trick or treat 4-6 p.m. Oct. 7 at Whitehall Parkway, 4689 S. Church St.

If kids are dressed in a costume, there is no fee. There is a small cost for adults.

Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo will hold a Bags and Bucks bingo during Harvest Fest, planned for Oct. 14 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road. Harvest Fest will run 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and bingo starts noon.

In addition to the festival and bingo, there will also be a basket raffle, craft market fair, pumpkin patch, food and more.

Tickets for bingo are cheaper when purchased in advance and include 20 games. There will be designer purses and cash prizes.

Whitehall Historical Preservation Society announced the dates for open houses at Helfrich Springs Grist Mill and Peter Grim Homestead, 501 and 506 Mickley Road, respectively. Open houses are set for 1-3 p.m. Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua will participate in an event Oct. 21 to commemorate the addition of the Hokendauqua Thomas Iron Company Town Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. There will be a sign unveiled that indicates when one has reached the historic district on Front Street.

“Since our church is located within the historic district, a sign will be placed along the church property,” the church newsletter states.

Hokey Eagles football and cheering will have a car wash fundraiser at UniMart Exxon, 2724 MacArthur Road, through the end of October. When you get your car washed at this business, use code 18054 at the pay station and receive a $1 discount while earning $3 per wash for the team.

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church will have its annual craft fair and quilt sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 11. More details will follow as the date approaches.

First Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative free community meal, for low-income Whitehall and Coplay residents, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 21. The meal is guaranteed for the first 100 guests.
