Hanover upgrades municipal meeting rooms

At the Sept. 20 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, township Manager Melissa Wehr detailed the upgrades occurring in the meeting rooms of the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road.

Wehr pointed out the new audio systems, among other improvements, being installed in meeting rooms will allow her to increase the volume of a microphone if a presenter speaks in a soft tone of voice.

The township’s municipal building incorporates many green design features, including a grass roof over the administration wing of the building. The township-elected leaders at the time the building was opened hoped the building would meet the public’s needs now and for future generations.

They cited Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s words, “Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a president, senators, congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.”

Wehr also demonstrated the large, specially made, automated screen. Council members asked many questions about how the new screen could be used to enhance presentations and other township activities.

Prior to discussing the upgrades, council Chair Bruce Paulus began the meeting with a moment of silence to honor the passing of Debra Brobst, wife of Northampton Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst.

Council passed resolution 2023-45 that adopts an Act 537 special study for Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

Also at the meeting, council authorized Wehr to file the Municipal Pension Obligation report to the Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System.

Bill 2023-05 is an ordinance to amend Chapter 15 of the statutory code of Hanover Township to change the reference to “Hoover Avenue” to “Hoover Street.”

Council voted to support the proposed settlement of AP Allentown, Limited Partnership Real Estate Tax Appeal.

Ordinances, resolutions and questions about agenda items can be addressed by calling the township office or visiting hanleco.org.

The next council meeting is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road. It is an in-person meeting only.
