Delano E. Bortz, 89, died Sept. 16, 2023, at Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Caroline M. Bortz for over 62 years. He was the son of the late Elden R. Bortz and Helen A. (Dries) Bortz. His family called Macungie home for nearly a century.

He operated Elden R. Bortz Quality Meats alongside his father until 1972, followed by a career at Kraft Foods, where he held various roles until his retirement.

He generously gave his time and expertise to Grace Lutheran Church, Macungie, serving on church council and participating in various committees.

He was a proud graduate of Emmaus High School, Class of 1952 and continued his education at Allentown Business School.

He served in the Army National Guard and was a longtime member of Lehigh Lodge No. 326 Free and Accepted Masons.

He was an avid fan of Emmaus High School sports, the Phillies and Penn State. He enjoyed working in his yard, playing cards, dining out and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by children, Jan Mitchell and her husband, Jerry, of Allentown, David and his wife, Fran, of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Harley Kunkel, Stephanie and fiancé, Ben Linchuck, David M. and fiancée, Margaret; great-grandson, Harley M. Kunkel. He was predeceased by half-brothers, Elden and Bruce.
