Ruthann Schlecht, 85, of Lehighton, died on Sept. 16, 2023, at St Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township. She was the wife of the late Ervin “Jack” H. Schlecht Jr. for 50 years.
Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Roswell and Mary (Fritz) Kromer.
She was a Lehighton HS graduate.
She worked at the 5 & 10, Bell Telephone, and Barson & Bishop Sewing Mills, Lehighton. She was a tax preparer for more than 30 years at H & R Block, Lehighton.
She attended Zion Lutheran Church, Packerton. She was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lehighton, where she volunteered with the food pantry.
She is survived by a son, Michael E. and husband, Kenneth F. Raniere of Coopersburg; a daughter, Ellen R. (Tappan) Cardell and husband Edward, of Lehighton; a brother, Martin Kromer and wife Doretta, of Lehighton; in-laws, Tyler and Marie Schlecht of Lehighton and family; two grandchildren, Timothy R. Tappan of Topton and Nora M. (Tappan) Smith and husband, Scott of Lehighton; four great-grandchildren, Leah, Avery, Tilly and Malcom; nieces; and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Oliver Kromer; and a granddaughter, Sarah B. Tappan.
