Three Tigers score in girls soccer win over NL

The Northwestern Lehigh girls soccer team has not been challenged too much this season, but Northern Lehigh gave the Tigers a run for their money recently before losing 3-2.

The Tigers followed up that win with an 8-0 win against Salisbury to move the team to 7-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the Colonial League.

The rival Bulldogs (4-1-0 Colonial, 4-1-0 overall) got goals from Jayden Fisher and Katelyn Barthold and a strong defensive showing from goalie Victoria Hanna, who turned away eight of the 11 shots on goal from Northwestern.

The Tiger offense had a little too much firepower with freshman Sophia Schaffer, junior Brook Balliet and senior Katie Brensinger all picking up goals to stay undefeated.

Northwestern has gotten production from both sides of the field with the offense putting up 36 goals and the defense allowing just four goals in seven games. With just over one-third of the season gone, Northwestern has the only unblemished record in District 11 Class 2A girls soccer after Central Catholic (5-0-1) tied Parkland recently.

Only the Lady Tigers and Palisades are undefeated in the Colonial League with the two teams holding identical 4-0-0 records. The meeting between Northwestern and Palisades would have taken place last Thursday, but a dangerous storm rolled through the area and postponed the game until Oct. 9, which will make it the final game of the season for Northwestern.

The upcoming schedule for the Tigers has games against Moravian Academy (2-3-0, 2-2-0), Southern Lehigh (4-3-0, 2-1-0), Saucon Valley (3-1-0, 3-1-0) and Palmerton (5-3-0, 2-2-0), with the games against the Panthers and Bombers coming on back-to-back days.

Northwestern is again enjoying a strong fall sports season with their teams being a combined 32-7-0 overall and 28-5-0 in Colonial League play during the fall season.
