Roughie Roundup Two girls in top-10; volleyball team picks up another victory

Northwestern head coach Chris Stitzel earned his 900th career victory during a Colonial League meet at Catasauqua last week.

Stitzel, now in his 25th season, also reached the 500-win mark with the girls program. Both Tiger teams posted 4-1 marks, falling to Southern Lehigh.

Palmerton’s Connor Hibell won the boys race in a time of 17:00.

Catty had two girls in the top-10. Alivia Bear took eighth and Ava Smith was 10th. Caelee Lenhart of Southern Lehigh took first overall with a time of 20:27.00.

The girls volleyball team knocked off Lincoln Leadership 3-0.

The scores were 25-12, 25-7, 25-11.

Makayla Bird had 4 aces, 2 kills and 7 digs. Amanda Hunsberger added 1 kill and 3 digs while Kara Gruver had 3 aces and 3 digs with Delaine Popa collecting 3 aces, 1 kills, 20 assists and 1 dig.

Lauren Delong had 1 ace, 5 assists and 1 block assist and Jane Armbruster chipped in with 3 aces, 2 kills and 5 digs.

Delaney Troxell had 2 aces, 2 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs and 1 block with Adriana Molinary adding 3 digs.

Catty fell to Notre Dame 10-25, 16-25, 21-25.

Makayla Bird had 2 kills and 2 digs with Amanda Hunsberger adding 4 kills. Delaine Popa would get 18 assists and 3 digs as Jane Armbruster had 1 kill and 10 digs.

Delaney Troxell had 6 kills, 2 digs and 2 blocks.

The girls were in a close contest with Executive Academy but lost 3-2.

Scores were 21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 19-21.

Makayla Bird had 7 aces, 2 kills, 12 digs and 1 block while Amanda Hunsberger had 1 ace, 4 kills, 2 Assists, 5 digs and 1 block assists. Kara Gruver added 1 ace and 6 digs with Delaine Popa collecting 5 aces, 2 kills, 24 assists and 3 block assists.

Jane Armbruster had 3 aces, 2 kills, 6 digs and 2.5 block assists as Delaney Troxell had 4 aces, 8 kills, 6 digs and 6 blocks with Adriana Molinary adding 1 kill and 2 digs.

In girls soccer, the Roughies dropped two recent games.

The team fell to Palisades 3-0 and also lost to Moravian Academy 5-0.

The boys soccer team lost to Palisades 4-1.

Catasauqua’s goal came from Alexander Strohl on an assist from Jayden Olivencia.

Palisades got goals from Blake Oglialoro, Samuel LaRosa, Jake Bucci and Ian Horvath. Bucci also added an assist.

Southern Lehigh beat Catty 7-0.

Northwestern was a 5-1 winner over CHS in field hockey.

Northwestern goals came from Rylee McGinley, Cara Thomas, Hannah Gober (2) and Ella Dangello.

Catasauqua’s goal was scored by Abigail Antipas

Sophia Becker of Catty made 21 saves.
