LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LHS set for big week

If there was one week of the volleyball regular season that Liberty had circled on the calendar it’s this week.

The Hurricanes are off to a blistering 8-0 start, but now put that to the test in three matchups this week against rival Freedom (5-4) and perennial District 11 powers Central Catholic (6-1) and Parkland (6-0).

Head coach Connor Swigart knows that this week’s slate of competition will give him a better indicator of what type of team he truly has.

“It is certainly going to be an enlightening week for us,” he said. “We are excited for the challenge and are always looking forward to playing against such great competition. We have said all year we are taking it one day at a time. Now is an opportunity to put that into action. It is the toughest week you could have for any team in the EPC.”

Liberty kept the train rolling on Monday night, knocking off Freedom in a three game sweep.

Their battle with Central was on Tuesday, past Press deadlines and then take on Parkland on Wednesday.

The Trojans have swept every team, including Central Catholic, this season and are the barometer for each team looking to dethrone them as the top team in the district.

Being able to get a week of tough competition is something Liberty’s staff and players are looking forward to.

“Every time you play at such a high level of competition it brings to light the things we are doing well and equally as important the things we need to improve on,” said Swigart. “Our staff this year has been diligent in saying that games, like the ones we have this week, helps us to find those deficiencies and strengthen them for those playoff matches we want to be playing in. It is not a time to grow comfortable so it will help push the girls to reach new heights.”

Outside of Monday’s matchup, Freedom still has two more league contests this week against Emmaus (5-3) and Allen (1-7).

Bethlehem Catholic (5-3) has battled back from their 0-3 start to win five straight over Pocono Mountain East, Northampton, Freedom, East Stroudsburg North and Dieruff.

The Hawks only have Central Catholic left this week after sweeping Dieruff on Monday.
