EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. I am an only child and live with my parents, John and Heather Carreiro.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is physics, because I enjoy learning how the world works. Physics can be applied to every aspect of life. My physics teacher Mr. Ohl is a big reason why I enjoy physics so much. He makes learning fun through his demonstrations of topics learned in class.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I received the AP Scholar with Distinction Award. I have been on Principal’s Honor Roll every marking period and I am a member of National Honor Society and French Honor Society. I have been a USA Irish Dance Alliance Academic All American for three consecutive years. I was also a member of the Emmaus High School State Championship Rifle Team.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. Some of my activities include competitive Irish Dance, the EHS Varsity Rifle Team and the EHS Astronomy Club. I also volunteer by tutoring. These activities have allowed me to meet new people and form friendships that will last long past high school. These activities have also allowed me to learn teamwork and leadership.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date is balancing my academics and extracurricular activities while still allowing time to spend with my friends and family. I think it is very important for students to have a school-life balance for their own mental health.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to study mechanical engineering in college.

Q. Whom do you hope to emulate? Why?

A. I hope to emulate the great female scientists and pioneers, such as Sally Ride and Katherine Johnson. These women persevered and accomplished incredible things, inspiring young girls to work hard to achieve their dreams.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for working hard to achieve my goals while maintaining my sense of humor.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My advice to my peers is, don’t be afraid to challenge yourself by trying new things, whether that involves taking a harder class, or trying a new activity. Trying new things allows you to discover new passions.
