The Emmaus Historical Society will host its first program of fall 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus. Bill Barto, past president of the Emmaus Historical Society, will present a new program titled, “The Emmaus 125th Anniversary Homecoming Parade of 1984.” A color video of the parade will be presented as well as a brief slideshow of photos from that day. Programs are free to the public. Refreshments and snacks are served after the program.

Sept. 23

Lower Milford’s 21st annual Fall Festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Coopersburg. The theme is “Equine and Bovine Country” focusing on the horse and cattle farms in the township. Event includes horse-drawn carriage rides, tractor-pulled wagon rides, hot air balloon rides, vendors, animal rescues, food, a Kiddie Korner and more. For more information, call 610-967-4949.

Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society quarterly meeting will be held 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. The program is titled “How the Pretzel Survived Prohibition and Other Twisted Tales.” Candace Perry of the Schwenkfelder Heritage Society will present the illustrated program of the long and storied history of pretzels. The program is free and everyone is welcome.

Sept. 27

The Emmaus Rotary Club will host a networking event 6-8 p.m. at Yergey Brewing, 235 Main St., Emmaus. Local residents, business professionals and community leaders are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served as well as craft beers offered by Yergey Brewing. A $10 donation is suggested and proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Tails of Valor, an organization providing service dogs for veterans.

Upper Milford Fire Dept, 6341 Chestnut St., Zionsville, will host a takeout chicken barbecue dinner 3 to 6 p.m. Tickets are available through the fire company website, from firefighters and at the time of meal pickup. Greater Lehigh Valley Writers’ Group will hold “Story Shrink,” a one-day workshop for authors ready to develop three critical elements for marketing a book - synopsis, pitch, and logline - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. online via Zoom. Kathryn Craft, developmental editor with WritingPartner.com, will lead the workshop. The morning consists of a half-day intensive where attendees will learn how to write a synopsis, shrink it down to a pitch, and shrink the pitch down to a one-sentence logline that begs interest. Attendees will have the opportunity to offer feedback on each other’s work. The afternoon will be 15-minute, one-on-one sessions with Craft. Each session is intended to help attendees apply the lessons from the morning to their individual project. Registration is limited to only eight slots for the afternoon session.
