Emmaus Borough Council convened Sept. 18 for its second regular meeting of the month without any public comments or special presentations. Subsequently, the minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
Two items were addressed in communications.
First, the Emmaus Arts Commission received a volunteer application from Rachel Peters. She was scheduled for an interview, but no action was taken. The second item pertained to an event request from Knauss Homestead, for the Harvest Vet Fest, a charity event for veterans in need. This event is scheduled 1 p.m. Oct. 21 and will be hosted at 152 E. Main St., Emmaus.
In unfinished business, Ordinance 1247 was approved. This ordinance entails the addition of a residential disabled parking sign and the designation of a permitted parking space at 629 Walnut St.
Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert announced October would be recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Councilman Chad Balliet and Councilwoman Teri Sorg-McManamon both commended the success of Dumpster Day within the borough. Balliet also extended his gratitude to those who attended the Emmaus Community Picnic.
In general administration, council authorized the purchase of a parking lot at 311 Main St. for a total cost of $400,000. An additional $76,800 was required to buy out the current lease, bringing the total expenditure to $476,800.
Within budget and finance, council approved the Borough of Emmaus Pension Plan Investment Policy and the 2023 Minimum Municipal Obligation. The Police Pension Plan MMO amounted to $654,593.02, while the Employee Pension Plan MMO totaled $284,806.79.
The bill list amounted to $453,706.37.
Borough Manager Shane Pepe reported the recently renovated borough hall was functioning well.
The meeting was adjourned and the next session is scheduled 6 p.m. Oct. 2.
