Attend a Swiftie party Oct. 20 at the library

The Lower Macungie Township Library has partnered with Plant a Row Lehigh to collect fresh produce for the food pantry at Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie. Donations are accepted 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 10 and can be placed in a cooler inside the library.
There will be a Swiftie Party for all ages 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 20. Taylor Swift fans are welcome to come dressed in their favorite Eras attire for an evening of music, dancing, games and prizes to celebrate the release of The Eras Tour Concert film.

There will be a Senior Citizens Expo 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. In addition to exhibitors from local, state and federal agencies and senior focused organizations, there will be free health screenings, light lunch and door prizes. The event is co-sponsored by St. Luke’s University Health Network and state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th.
The Ancient Oaks garage sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30. There is no rain date. The Ancient Oaks Women’s Organization will hold its next meeting 7 p.m. Oct. 4 at St. Paul’s UCC in Trexlertown. Come for fun and fellowship.
The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold a Harvest Festival at the Bortz Log House in Wescosville 2-4 p.m. Oct. 8. House tours will be available.
The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold an open house 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at the fire station at Sauerkraut Lane. There will be information on fire prevention, fire truck tours, MedEvac helicopter, state police, coloring activities, Macungie Ambulance, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, food and beverages and more.
The Church of the Good Shepherd, Alburtis Road will hold its fall craft and vendor sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14. There will be crafts, attic treasures, a gift basket auction, bake sale and good food.
There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th and the township 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Lower Macungie Township parking lot.
The Alburtis Seniors will have a meeting noon Oct. 18 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.
Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Oct. 12 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues will be collected; bring both cards. Tickets are now available for the Dec. 14 Christmas party. The next meeting will be Nov. 2. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.
The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 3 in the community center. There will be pizza and entertainment by Living Strings, a strolling string group. Volunteers are needed for the nomination and entertainment committees. Members are welcome to stay after the meeting to socialize and play games.
Lower Macungie Township is sponsoring a Halloween Bash for youth ages 5-11 years with parents 7-9 p.m. Oct. 13 at the community center. Wear a costume for a prize. There will be a local DJ, games, drinks and snacks. Registration is limited.

The board of commissioners and staff are holding the 18th Annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations will be accepted at the community center during those same times Monday through Friday through Nov. 22. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.
The community center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 29.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Yard waste center hours through October are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.
Weekly collection of grass clippings continues through the week of Oct. 2 with collection on the day after regular trash day collection. Leaf collection begins Oct. 16 and continues through Dec. 1. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.
