Marian Johnson
Marian Johnson, of New Tripoli and Orefield, died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 15, 2023.
Born Nov. 11, 1933, in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and M. Evelyn (Snyder) Madtes.
As a young child, she and her family moved to her mother’s family homestead and farm.
She graduated from Slatington High School, and then went to work for Western Electric and while she continued her support of the family business at the Allentown Farmers Market.
On Nov. 11, 1961, she and Arthur Johnson were married. They were devoted to one another and the family they raised together.
Her survivors include a daughter, Susan Bravo (David); son, Peter (Jo); granddaughters Libby and Evelyn; grandsons, William, Eli and Arthur; stepdaughter Jill Plummer (Sam); and many nieces and nephews and extended family members to whom she showed such great care and kindness; and brother Willard.
She was the loving sister to the late Paul, Carl and LaMar.
Having led a gentle, kind, and generous life with love that came from a deep and abiding faith, she was a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church, and for decades served the church by teaching Sunday School and Bible Camp.
She loved gardening, especially the flowers she grew with her mother.
Many will remember the beautiful flower patch along the road near their home.
She enjoyed cooking but relished satisfying the sweet tooths of her husband and family with all sorts of cookies and cakes.
She loved to travel and to learn about other people and places.
She and her family braved the challenges that dementia brought to them in her last years.
Visitation will take place at Keller Funeral Home 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23 with the funeral service at 10 a.m.
Interment will be at Bethany United Methodist Cemetery, Wescosville.
