At its Sept. 18 meeting, Catasauqua Borough Council voted on the River Central Multi-Municipal Plan. Council members voted to approve being part of the plan but wanted the option of pulling out.
Brent Green, East Allen Township manager, was present at the meeting to say there would be little to no fallout if they withdraw from the plan.
The River Central plan allows each municipality to keep its autonomy but allows the communities to work together to manage an evolving development landscape. Participating municipalities include Catasauqua, North Catasauqua and Northampton boroughs and Hanover (Lehigh County) and East Allen townships.
The plan has common objectives for land use, housing, air quality, transportation development, recreational facilities, natural resource conservation, farmland preservation and economic development.
Council President Brian Bartholomew reported a person recently jumped off the Pine Street Bridge and was rescued, thanks to the quick response of the Catasauqua Fire Department. Support for the firefighters’ heroism was shown through a round of applause.
Borough council next meets Oct. 2 for committees and Oct. 16 for business.
