Coplay: Mental health run planned for Sept. 23

The third annual Miles for Mental Health 5-K walk/run is set for Sept. 23 at the Coplay Parkway pavilion, Second and Keefer streets.

The event is to raise awareness of mental health importance and to break down stigma.

Registration is set for 8 a.m., and the 5-K starts 9 a.m.

There is an entrance fee. All proceeds go toward mental health resources.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., will be holding a blessing of the animals service 2 p.m. Oct. 1 in the church parking lot.

Coplay Public Library’s fall book and bake sale is scheduled for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7 at the library, 49 S. Fifth St.

Thousands of books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles are looking for a good home!

Baked good donations are also accepted and appreciated.

The library is also participating in the Boscov’s Friends Helping Friends shopping fundraiser.

Stop by the library to get a pass, which you can use Oct. 18. There is a cost for the pass, and 100% of this donation goes to the library.

The pass gives you a 25% discount on your in-store purchases (exclusions apply).

You will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $100 Boscov’s gift card.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., will be holding its Weinlesefest (grape dance) 3-6 p.m. Oct. 15.

There will be a special selection of wines, delicious food, wine-themed sing-a-longs, door prizes and great music. Entertainment will be provided by the Emil Schanta Band.

Wear your German outfits, such as dirndl, lederhosen, vests, hats, etc.

There is a cost.

Coplay Crime Watch note: Around Halloween, there is excitement and family fun. It also a time of increased vandalism. Install motion lights around your house to help stop crime.

Coplay Senior Citizens meets 1 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays at the Coplay Fire Hall building, 165 Cherry St. Doors open noon.

Membership is open to all Lehigh Valley seniors.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

Recycling electronics can be dropped off at DCR Technologies, 205 Main St., Northampton, by appointment only. Visit drc-tech.net for a list of items accepted and any related costs.
