Roughie Roundup Volleyball gets 2 victories
The Catty girls volleyball team picked up a couple of wins recently.
The swept Pen Argy 3-0, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-16.
Makayla Bird had 5 aces, 1 kill, 7 digs and 1 block and Amanda Hunsberger had 1 ace, 5 kills, 14 digs and 1 block assists.
Kara Gruver chipped in with 8 digs.
Delaine Popa had 2 aces, 3 kills, 7 assists and 2 block assists. Jane Armbruster added 3 Aces, 4 kills and 3 block assists. Delaney Troxell had 6 aces, 3 kills, 9 digs and 5 blocks while Adriana Molinary had 1 kill, 13 digs and 3 block assists.
The girls had an exciting, 3-2 win over Palmerton.
Catty opened with a 25-19 win before falling 25-14. They went up 2-1 with a 25-22 win but would drop a very close game four, 25-23. The rallied and won 15-5 in game five.
Makayla Bird had 3 aces, 2 kills, 9 digs and 3 blocks. Amanda Hunsberger had 6 kills, 26 digs and 3 block assists. Kara Gruver added 1 ace.
Maliya Walp chipped in with 2 aces, 1 kill and 5 digs and Delaine Popa had 3 aces, 13 assists, 1 block and 6 block assists.
Jane Armbruster came up with 3 kills, 1 block and 5 block assists while Delaney Troxell had 3 aces, 10 kills, 14 digs, 8 blocks and 3 block assists and Adriana Molinary had 1 kill, 16 digs and 4 block assists
In boys soccer, Tamaqua edged Catty 3-2.
The Roughs led twice in the game, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Jayden Olivera scored to give CHS the lead.
But a penalty kick goal from the Raiders Cooper Ansbach tied it at 1-1. Osmar Ferre would give Catty a 2-1 lead in the second half.
Jathan Krall tied the game at 2-2 on a pass from Cooper Ansbach and then Ansbach struck again, this time assisting Wyatt Steigerwalt with the game-winner in overtime.
Catty lost to Palisades, 4-1.
For Catty, Alexander Strohl scored on a pass from Jayden Olivencia for the team’s lone goal.
But the Pirates got a goal and an assist from Jake Bucci to win the game. Blake Oglialoro, Samuel LaRosa and Ian Horvath also scored in the win.
