BC lone undefeated team in the city

Bethlehem Catholic kept rolling on the gridiron last week, while Liberty and Freedom both fell to the top teams in District 11.

The Hawks (3-0) are the lone undefeated team in the city after posting a 42-6 mercy-rule win over a winless Pocono Mountain East squad last week.

Quarterback Cayden Vassa threw three touchdowns in short work, going 4-of-10 for 87 yards, as the Hawks built a 35-6 halftime lead. Mekhi Lapierre caught two scores for 21 yards and Jacob Sutton ran for 67 yards and a touchdown.

“We got a couple turnovers that allowed us to take an early lead,” said head coach Tyler Ward. “Played the first half out with our normal guys and then rotated a bunch of guys in the second half.”

Liberty (2-1) battled against the area’s top-ranked team in Parkland (3-0) last week, but couldn’t stay close in a 42-14 loss.

Gabe Green continued his impressive season at running back, breaking free on a 60-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to make it a 13-7 ballgame, but Parkland proved to be too much. Parkland running back Trey Tremba scored four times on the night, his final touchdown being a 93-yard back-breaker before halftime.

“Parkland is as advertised in a lot of ways,” said head coach Shawn Daignault. “I’m proud of how our team competed, regardless of the score. I think we’re going to get better every week and I’m happy with the group of kids we have.”

Freedom (1-2) fell to an equally tough Nazareth squad 42-26 on the road. The Patriots led 6-0 early following a three-yard score from Noah Pierre and trailed 14-13 at halftime. The Blue Eagles scored the first two touchdowns of the second half to build a cushion, as Marquez Wimberly scored three touchdowns on the ground. Pierre scored his second touchdown of the night in the second half with an 80-yard run.

Freedom hosts another undefeated team for the third week in a row when Central Catholic (3-0) visits BASD Stadium Friday night.
