Northampton: Veterans event set for Sept. 16

Northampton Joint Veterans Organization will hold a program 11:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the veterans plaza, 14th Street and Washington Avenue, to honor POW-MIA military men and women. All are invited to attend.

The rain date will be 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2174 Lincoln Ave., is planning a basket social noon-7 p.m. Sept. 16 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 17.

The drawing will begin 1:30 p.m. Sept. 17. You need not be present to win.

Homemade food and baked goods will be available for purchase.

Tickets will be on sale at the door.

Grace United Church of Christ, 902 Lincoln Ave., is having a hoagie and sandwich sale. The hoagies are Italian or tuna, and the sandwiches are ham and cheese or tuna.

Order forms can be picked up in the church office 9 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays or downloaded on the church website at graceuccchurch.com. Orders and payment are due by Sept. 17. The pickup date is 4-6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the church.

Grace UCC is having a barbecue dinner fundraiser to help families in Northampton Area School District who may be experiencing food insecurity. The food will be prepared by Lorah’s Farm Market, Walnutport.

Meals will be either half of a roasted chicken or a pulled pork sandwich, baked potato and coleslaw.

To order dinners for yourself or for the church to donate to a family in need, you can pick up an order form 9 a.m.-1 p.m. weekdays in the church office or downloaded on the church website.

Orders and payment are due by Sept. 17. The pickup date is 4-6 p.m. Sept. 23 in the church parking lot.

Siegfried Railroad Station Museum, on West 21st Street, will be open to visitors 1-4 p.m. Sept. 17.

The station houses artifacts from Northampton and the surrounding area. Scrapbooks with pictures of men and women from the area who served in World War II are available for perusal. Haff Hospital artifacts are on display as well.
