North Catasauqua: North Catasauqua seeking full-time borough treasurer
North Catasauqua is hiring a full-time borough treasurer.
This is a Monday through Friday position of 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed. Salary will be determined based on experience, with a minimum starting salary of $43,680.
The position handles the financial affairs of the borough, including, but not limited to, budgets, accounts receivable, pensions, grants and daily office duties.

A senior expo, hosted by state Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, is planned for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 14 at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 675 Blue Mountain Drive, Cherryville.
Exhibitors from state and local agencies, businesses and other organizations will provide information and answer questions important to seniors.
CarFit, an educational program for seniors to learn how well their personal vehicles fit them, will be on hand. To register for CarFit, contact Mildred Ozoa at 610-865-7083.
The expo is free to attend, and light refreshments will be available.

North Catasauqua Hometown Heroes banners are available to purchase and will be hung around small Town USA. The banners are available to honor or remember a relative or anyone who served in any branch of the military.
There is a cost.
A photo of the individual to be put on the banner will be needed with the name of the individual on the back of the photo. The banners are proposed to be installed and hung on Howertown Road and Grove, Main and Fourth streets.
Banner application forms are available at borough hall during regular business hours.

Northampton County will be holding a household hazardous waste residential collection Sept. 30, rain or shine, at Northampton Community College, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem.
This event is for Northampton County residents only, and proof of residence will be required at check-in. Registration will close when time slots are filled.
There are event guidelines. Drop-off is by appointment only, with online preregistration required, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., is having a half-price sale on everything during September.
Regular hours at the shop are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The shop accepts donations of good, used, clean clothing and household items during regular store hours. Proceeds from the shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services.

North Catasauqua Police Department is making residents aware of the Savvy Caregiver Program from the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. The United Way will be hosting free training classes for the members of the community who care for a family member who has been diagnosed with dementia.
This program aims to help those providing care for loved ones living with dementia through relevant knowledge, skills and self-care practices. The classes begin this month through the fall season.

Mako is making residents aware that September is National Preparedness Month. This year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is placing special focus on ensuring older adults are prepared for natural disasters or other emergencies.
According to the American Red Cross, there are several factors that make older adults more vulnerable after disasters.

Save the date! The annual North Catasauqua and Catasauqua Halloween parade will be held Oct. 18.
The rain date for the parade is Oct. 25.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St., will be holding its seventh annual Oktoberfest 5-9 p.m. Oct. 21 on the parish grounds.
The event starts 4 p.m. with a special German Mass and a polka flair by Robbie Lawrence on accordion in the church. Following the Mass, the parish center will be serving delicious homemade foods including pulled pork, schnitzel, spaetzle and more.
A bier garten will be located in the parking lot, with a fire pit, weather permitting.
