District News: Administration informs families of federal nutrition programs

Attention Whitehall-Coplay School District families: The district is pleased to inform you about the federal nutrition programs available to support families in providing healthy meals during the 2023-24 school year.

As part of our commitment to serving the community, WCSD qualifies to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision program. Under this program, all students in the district will be eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2023-24 school year.

Additionally, the program has some excellent news for those who may recall participation in the CEP program last year. To further assist students and families, each eligible WCSD student will receive a Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) card with $120. These funds are intended to support a family’s household’s nutritional needs.

To ensure a seamless experience, be aware the P-EBT cards will be mailed directly to homes from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. This means you do not need to take any action to receive them.

If you have any questions or need assistance with the P-EBT program, visit the WCSD website at whitehallcoplay.org. Families can navigate to the food service department under the department drop-down menu and select Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT): Summer 2023 Family Guide. This guide contains valuable contact information for the program and where you can find answers to any questions.

It is requested you refrain from calling the district directly regarding the P-EBT program, as the program is administered independently and staff may be unable to provide the assistance you need.

WCSD is committed to supporting the well-being of our students and their families and hopes these initiatives will ease the financial burdens associated with providing nutritious meals.

Thank you for being a valued part of the Whitehall-Coplay community.

Whitehall High School’s back to school and college financial aid nights will be held as one event, scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Sept. 21. Families are encouraged and welcome to visit teachers in their classrooms to answer questions.

WHS will not be running a student schedule for you to visit every teacher in a short time frame. Teachers will be available anytime during this two-hour window.

Zephyr Elementary School’s class T-shirts are available. There will be several occasions during the year when students will wear them. Each class will wear a specific color, which will help to keep the students safe, so they can be easily organized and identifiable during field trips, assemblies and schoolwide activities.

Students will keep the T-shirts in their classroom during the year for safekeeping. At the end of the year, students will have an opportunity to get signatures from classmates and teachers and will be permitted to take their T-shirts home with them.

Visit the Zephyr Elementary Buzz link to order.

Reminder for WHS students: Only WCSD Chromebooks will be permitted for in-school use for this school year. No other devices will connect to the district Wi-Fi.
