SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE: Northside Alive will be collecting school supplies at its Yoga in the Park events. The Yoga Loft of Bethlehem will hold free morning yoga sessions at Johnston Park. If staying for yoga, please bring a mat, towel and water bottle. During the sessions, you can drop off the following items for donation to schools in the community: Black Expo Dry Erase Markers, #2 Pencils, Plain Pocket Folders, Crayons, Colored Pencils, Pencil Erasers, Tissues, Hand Sanitizer, Headphones. Sessions will be on Saturday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 to 11 a.m.

HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION: Wear your country’s colors and enjoy food, Unsung Heros Awards, exhibitors, Activities, and music featuring DJ Baby, Talento Local and Pennsylvania Sinfonio Orchestra. At The Barrio Stage at Touchstone Theatre, 321 E. 4th St, Bethlehem from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Vincent Kuhns is in Fourth grade at Fountain Hill ES. Vinny is an ultimate friend to all who meet him. He goes out of his way to make his classmates feel safe, important and loved. His stories and sense of humor keep everyone smiling.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Kelly Simpson, Broughal MS guidance counselor: Simpson works tirelessly to communicate with staff and students, and parents. Her outstanding work ethic and taking pride in her position make her an asset to the BASD.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Robert Borgado, Freedom HS class of 2013, is currently employed as a design assurance engineer at B. Braun Inc. Robert attended Asa Packer ES and Governor Wolf ES, East Hills MS and Freedom HS. He graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in mechanical engineering.

NO SCHOOL: All BASD schools will be closed Monday, Sept. 25. Childcare and offices will be open.

DISTRICT HIRES: BASD’s Educational Programs Office is excited to welcome Rick Amato as the supervisor of STEM, grades K-12. The Office of Equity Initiatives is excited to introduce their newest staff member, Mary Kovalchick, who brings a wealth of information with her.

MURAL CELEBRATION: The Hobart Stairs Mural is complete. A celebration will be held Thursday, Sept. 14 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at 1205 Steel Avenue, Bethlehem. Register to attend at southsideartsdistrict.com.

BASD IS HIRING: For open positions, visit basdschools.org. Aramark, the district’s food service provider, is also hiring.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION: On the second Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be a drive-through food distribution at Northeast MS, 1170 Fernwood St. The distribution is open to families of BASD students.

LIBERTY HS OPEN HOUSE: Wednesday, Sept. 13, 6:30 p.m.

NORTH BETHLEHEM LITTLE LEAGUE SNACK STAND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! We’ll be opening the snack stand at the Northeast facility during the Majors home games. All help is greatly appreciated. This is a great opportunity for teens to get their community service hours in! You have to be 14 to work in the front and 18 to work on the fryers.
