Trojan girls tennis wins first seven matches

The Parkland girls tennis team is off to an unbeaten start to the season.

The Trojans opened the season with a 6-1 win over East Stroudsburg South on Aug. 21. Alexandria Warsing and Sophia Petrocelli won singles matches, while Belle Mattson and Moriah Thomas teamed up for the win at first doubles. Aarohi Vaze and Kiera Miles took the second doubles match. Ali Silman and Kiana Miles won their match at No. 3 doubles and Kate Gilchrist and Riley Zangari were victorious in the fourth doubles match.

After a 6-0 win at Whitehall, Parkland returned home on Aug. 28 to beat East Stroudsburg North 6-0.

Warsing, Sophie Elijovich and Petrocelli swept the singles matches against the Timberwolves, while Vaze and Kiera Miles won their No. 1 doubles match. Silman and Kiana Miles won the second doubles match.

The Trojans didn’t give up a point in any of those five matches, winning all of them by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Gilchrist and Zangari nearly completed the shutout with a 6-0, 6-1 win.

Parkland traveled to Southern Lehigh for a 4-1 nonleague win on Aug. 30 before hosting Northampton on Aug. 30.

In the 6-0 win over the Konkrete Kids, Warsing, Elijovich and Petrocelli won their singles matches. The teams of Vaze/Kiera Miles, Silman/Kiana Miles and Gilchrist/Zangari all won their doubles matches.

Parkland went on the road to beat Liberty 6-2 on Aug. 31 then returned home for a match against Central Catholic on Sept. 1

Parkland beat the Vikes 5-2 with Warsing and Petrocelli winning their singles matches. Vaze/Kiera Miles, Silman/Kiana Miles and Zangari/Matson earned doubles wins.

Parkland improved to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in East Penn Conference matches with 10 matches remaining on the 2023 schedule.
