Boys soccer team wins three straight games

The Falcons came into the season with a different style of play than what they have been used to. Coach Mark Allinson looked at the players he had assembled and liked the added athleticism that players coming over from baseball and basketball gave his team and decided to put it to good use.

After a season-opening loss to Kutztown, the new look Falcons have won three straight and do look like a new team on the field.

Salisbury (2-0-0 Colonial, 3-1-0 overall) opened Colonial League play with a 4-1 win at Saucon Valley and continued the success with a 4-2 win over Notre Dame (East Stroudsburg) and a 2-1 win over Palmerton.

Josh Hudak had six goals last season as a sophomore and has four in the last two games, including a hat trick against Notre Dame. He also added a goal and an assist in the win against Palmerton (0-2-0, 1-3-0).

Jack Monahan had a goal and an assist against Notre Dame and teamed with Hudak in the 2-1 win at home against Palmerton. One of the storylines in their last two games has been the play of senior goalie Blaine Berger, who has made seven saves in the two wins last week.

On the season, Salisbury has a one goal difference with 11 goals scored and 10 allowed. The numbers are skewed by the 6-1 loss to Kutztown that opened the season and in the last three games, they have outscored their opponents 10-4.

The Falcons have hit the seven-win mark in each of the past two seasons, which left them shy of qualifying for the postseason. The expectations were higher this season than they were for last season and with three quick wins to its credit, Salisbury is enjoying the early success. Keep in mind that players are still settling in for Allinson and the team’s offense should continue to develop as the season progresses.

This week will give Salisbury a test as they face Bangor (1-0-1, 2-0-1), Wilson (2-0-0, 3-1-0), and defending 2A state champion Northwestern Lehigh (4-0-0, 2-0-0) over the next week.
