Zephyr Wrap Field hockey continues to build

The Whitehall field hockey team is looking to build back the program this year, but did get a confidence-boosting win over Pocono East, 11-0, recently.

Zephyr goals were scored by Ava Kozak and assisted by Lydia Keppel.

Mati Derkacs scored next assisted by Kerigan Dreisbach. That was followed by Dreisbach’s goal from Derkacs which made it 3-0.

Kozak made it 4-0 on a pass from Keppel and then Keppel scored unassisted to make it 5-0. Ava Kneller scored next and was assisted by Kozak. Dreisbach had another goal and was assisted by Josie Shutlz and then Keppel added an unassisted goal to make it 8-0.

Molly McFetridge was assisted by Olivia Fonzone to make it 9-0 and Dreisbach’s unassisted goal was the 10th of the game before Vangela Tran scored the final goal on a pass from Fonzone.

“This season we are looking to build,” said head coach Gabi Smith. “After losing a large senior class last year that contributed highly to our success, we are looking to create cohesive play in our new team dynamic.

“One of our goals is to strengthen our passing patterns and provide greater support between our lines. We will be relying on four captains: Aubrey Steiner, Matisyn Derkacs, Olivia Fonzone, and Lydia Keppel to lead the efforts on the field.

“All the girls have been working hard on these goals and we are excited for what we can develop this season.
