Golf having great season Boys soccer wins; Jusinski takes 22nd
The Northampton golf team improved to 12-0 last week, with a victory over longtime power Liberty 393-420.
Jayden Bleiler led the way for the Kids with a 73.
The team continues to pile up wins in what was expected to be a stellar year.
“It’s been a great season for us so far,” said head coach Brian Davies. “We have a legitimate opportunity to have the first undefeated regular season in Northampton golf history. We’ve defeated the top teams thus far, Nazareth, Emmaus, Liberty, Freedom, and Parkland, and have a few matches remaining against substantially weaker opponents.”
Trent Moyer and Gavin Pychinka each scored 77 and Michael Seidick had an 82 and Kohler Strohl shot 84.
“The players have done a great job this year showing our depth and experience. The entire team is composed of seniors and juniors. We’ve had five different players score the low round of a match. Gavin Pychinka (11) and team co-captain Trent Moyer (12) have been top players for the past few years and have lived up to expectations,” Davies said.
“Jayden Bleiler continued a solid year and has been heating up as we get closer to the postseason. Two bright spots who have substantially improved are Kohler Strohl (11) and Tyler Matute-Keiper (12). Each of them has improved by six to seven strokes from last season and has stabilized our lineup. They each got jobs at a golf course this past year and have been putting in hours practicing.”
The starting golfers are rounded out by a solid group of veterans. This includes team co-captain Michael Seidick (12), Justin Edwards (12), and Gabe Gower (11).
“They’ve had ups and downs this season but are looking to hit their stride in the coming weeks,” Davies said.
The team has their sights set on a District 11 title, but Davies knows that won’t be easy.
“We will most likely have a rematch with Nazareth, whom we only defeated by one stroke. Additionally, Southern Lehigh is looking formidable this year. We are taking nothing for granted and staying humble. If we do continue to win, it couldn’t have happened to a better group of players,” Davies said.
